Demonstration of Japanese Shodo at the Roswell Budokan, September 17, 2008, by Shodo Master Shuji Horino.
Born in February 1942, Shuji Horino is the second eldest son of the famous calligrapher and founder of the Horino Shodo School, Tessen Horino. He began the study of calligraphy at the age of five. At the age of 32, he left his job at the Fujitsu Company to return to the School, and thus began his professional calligraphy career. Until 2002, Mr. Horino worked under his art name of Kosen Horino. In 2002, he succeeded to take his father's name and became Tessen Horino III. He is currently the Headmaster of Horino Shodo School and is soon to become the Grandmaster of Nihon Shoho Gei-justuin (Japan Calligraphy Academy). Each year, Tessen Horino III is invited by the Chinese government to exhibit his artwork; additionally, his work is showcased in England, Korea, Italy, the United States and of course, Japan.
